okay bhavanson is blogging again (click link) which means that perhaps its time for me to starts me engine again ala chitty chitty bang bang except with more vroom and less bang. considering the fact that i will be entering the servitude of the nation via national service in four days (i.e friday morning 12pm) i guess i should start polishing up my english. in any case, singaporean males are forced to join in training for the defence of their nation just like....SPARTANS! so i decided to list a few things we had in common with the overly glamourised spartans of 300.
1) we would all secretly like to plod around in loin cloths and capes. singapore is hot.
2) just like how leonidas gave a "THIS IS SPARTA!" speech before kicking invaders, Tharman Shanmugaratnam recently gave a "THIS IS THE NEW BUDGET!" speech before kicking inflation.
3) the most obvious, yes, we are conscripted and forced to do things, etc. oh the passion and excitement. we all feel a nervous fervour for serving our country in times of need, a fervour best expressed in a foreign nation, say australia or germany, in those times of need.
4) we all have to fight wolves at some point in our lives, except the spartans only have the furry kinds, when young, whilst we get insurance agents/property developers/mormons. tough.
5) lastly, we are both small nations with SUPER HOT BABES WALKING ABOUT ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH A SUPER HOT QUEEN AND DAMN SOLID KING, except that singapore doesnt have the super hot babes, king or queen part. instead, we restrict ourselves to ephors in power. no oracle for us though :(
so yupp. SPARTANS! 300 was a solid movie. i just dont understand why they didnt chase the guy who chopped off the captains sons head. odd eh. lucky for us, when people ask for our professions we dont yell aa-ooh 3 times, instead restricting ourselves to the fairly conservative doctor, lawyer or exotic dancer.
after all, this is anfield singapore. fin
