happy belated birthday katling!
so yeah. wake up at EIGHT (*^$*$&^#*&$!!!) change into my lovely new
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LAP DANCERS tee from topman.
ich hab klein los!
so yeah, wake up, fly to Singapore Island Country Club and we're all bowling, where we all realise that we're very special. after all, how many other people can get scores of 0-0 twice in a row? i completed the third round with the spectacular score of 42! beat that beppe. hulin is SO GOOD at bowling he thrashed us all. so after getting thrashed by hulin for two rounds (except the third where shumin beat us all - yeay shumin!) we take a hitch hike from this rlly nice guy - and ah shums sandal breaks, signalling the end of the world. blah blah blah, its all resolved, etc, we watch a movie, and i do impressions with hulin, we all take pictures and then i go to the park da!
where towards the end of the match im down clutching my calf - with cramps again. fickt. i love my new boots, cos they helped me score this lovely lovely goal against uncle - so yeay. spent the rest of the time after the match sitting about with mansheel, grace, this indian guy, colins girlfriends sisters brother, and this indian girl, and watching the three stooges singing one line from some song, over and over, 'when i wake up in the morning'. so there. im home- and dead tired - but i cant wait for tomorrow-
new day, new game.
ill see it all happen before me- or you.

i know this been published before, but whaddaheck.
fog
They stand with their arms tightly around each other
a mixture of flesh, so rich in days
where the sea touches the land
she wants to tell him the truth
But the wind eats her words
where the sea ends
she holds his hand, trembling
and kissed him on the forehead
She carries the evening in her chest
and knows that she must wither away
she lays her head in his lap
and asks for a last kiss
and then he kissed her
where the sea ends
her lips, delicate and pale
and his eyes tear up
The last kiss was so long ago
the last kiss
he does not remember it anymore

spiel mit mir
so its raining everyday. aight. the past few days after the end of the 'o's have been long. sweet long days without work or any such nonsense, days spent going out with hulin, shumin, kat and occasionally max. watching movies, or dropping down for drama camp, like today.
i still havent woken up past nine like i vowed to. damn.
anyway my friend came and stayed over after shawns play, ROFL, and we spent the whole night playing on his PS2 at my place, before goin down at like 5 to watch madrid get thrashed 3-0 by barcelona. i of course stopped watching after the third goal uttering curses of all sorts lah. frichen.
anyway yeah then theres been drama camp i just been sittin in. i miss the stage; but drama camp is doin nothin to appease that hunger - so ill just make that stage whereever i go.
this morning i went out with hulin [again! :)] shopping for stuff cos we needed to get kats birthday present - and since they dint have kawasaki slippers, kats real lucky. i went to buy a pair of soccer boots (total90III) which im very pleased with.
aight then i go check out drama camp - and julius is fantastic. talked to ms quah about stanislavsky, and grotovsky, brecht and brooks, the four of them being innovators of different forms of dramatic training - and very useful schools of thought.
i was chatting with dhanistha and so i modified her play. she wrote about a model being bitten by a radioactive cockroach, and becoming ugly. so i added that she looked in the mirror and realised
im miki!
and the cockroach becomes wenjun and they do their stuff. anyways - that dont matter.
i miss my dramatics is all.
came back and went straight to the park and grace and mansheel are there, and colin comes, and this other girl who's quite okay too. uncle dint come, though the fag brothers and the Tamil Literary Society did, them being evan and allistair, along with prashanth and navin. prashanth, who is apparently called penguin in his skool (ACSI lah) was saying in a very authoritarian voice 'im standing here.' holy shit, and just like that, the gameplay changes. lets all go parade with the brady bunch!
had mud everywhere, cos it was so muddy, and my total90s are covered in an inch of mud (okay, i just done cleanin them) and thassit. just listenin to du riecht so gut on the radio, and wonderin.
am i right? cos things are lookin up,
and i dont know what to think,
though my gemini differential is sayin all the right things,
los
we'll see.

its coming
and in a few days, i will come to the day ive been waiting for the entire year. that one day which could change everything. the one event thatll decide if we're up to it; up to taking back whats rightfully ours; one day to see if we will ever catch up, or if we're still up to the standard. the event we've all been waiting for the entire year, an event always greeted with fierce competition and the rebirth of an intense rivalry, for in a few days, itll be
real madrid vs barcelona
(oh, and as a side note, the 'o' levels are ending)
i still dont know what im gonna do. ive saved so much, but i dont know who im gonna spend it on now. maybe ill buy that new nokia slim bar handphone. i really dont know.
but anyway its interesting lah. like finally, the exam we've waited four years to take will be over - in ONE day! and the minutes just stretch, its so awfully close, but its so far away.
real madrid tipped to thrash barca 7-0
5:00 am on the 21st - maybe ill get a friend over to watch it. match of the year.
anyhows; i cant wait for chem to be overl so i bought 'the album' to while away the time.
i cant wait for sunday; none of you'll understand why.
i cant wait for the o's to be over
i cant wait for real madrid to beat barca
i cant wait to play soccer again
i cant wait for sunday
i cant wait to go overseas
but most of all
i cant wait for ramya to come back

- 8:14 pm
after like so long i was finally able to go to the park for soccer - and so few people came. uncle was there, rusell was there, colin was there and joshua (who i like to call nakata da) and so we played three on two. it was uncle harbhajan rusell and nakata against colin and i, and we played till we were up 4-2, so we let em come back to 4-4 and i went and made it 5-4 - ha :) so i told colin to switch sides and now its nakata (whos what - 10?) and me, against colin rusell and uncle - then uncle sees these three girls - grace rachel and mansheel? who i just remember from panjabi class with panje last time who recognised me - and haha she used to be what? seven? now shes like so much bigger. so anyway they play, and grace (who i remember cos she got the same name as my chem teacher) joins us and the other two join the other side. eventually she swops with rachel to join us - and rachel scores FIVE times. five times. i told her to come back next week, along with the other two who did really well too. and russell scored TWICE. AMAZING. i dont think hes ever scored before. i just played as usual and scored some goals though i cant remember how much, and rachel was really good- she latched on to every ball i sent through and scored most of the time, and so was mansheel on the other side cos she was everywhere on the pitch, and grace was good too. but then again colin and russell put up quite a show so it all evened out, although i think at some point mansheel was trying to kill me, and colin was too. but nevermind - im still alive :) theyre plenty of fun - i hope they come back next week. haha mansheels funny. she tried to wash her hands in the swimming pool, but the philanderer security guard caught her.
and now once again - if you havent studied start reading - here come the stories of china, germany, and of course, mein mutter russia.
china! revolution to war.
once upon a time, there was a country called china which was full of han dynasty people - but ruled by the evil manchus - qing dynasty people. and they were on a decline! yeay. so the manchus declined and im gonna skip to the GMD, cos the self strengthening movement, the 100 day reform and the imperial reforms sucked. so sun yat sen was the head of the guomindang, who came into power only after they promised yuan shikai presidency- PRIME MINISTER yuan shikai who rose to power because he put down the revolts by the people with his han army. then yuan shikai, the idiot, wanted to become emperor - but he died - YEAY. so it was up to the GMD to unify china by defeating the warlords controlling the land for yuan - so under the advice of the russian commies, they banded together with the CCP and had sex the first united front, and many many children. so now the ccp were in a better position for a takeover bid, could maintain their status as a political party, whilst the GMD could keep in touch with workers and peasants, and received russian military training. so they defeated the warlords (many of whom pledged nominal allegiance to them) when suddenly sun yat sen died (DAMN!) and jiang jie shi, also known by his trendy msn nick, chiang kai shiok, and he conducted the may the fourth coup to purge the poor commies, since they werent needed anymore. but anyway now the GMD had total rule, so they set up roads and railways - but guess what? the govt was inefficient and corrupt, and the GMD was controlled only through the army. ah well. so they defeated the warlords, destroyed commie bases (cos now they retreated lah to the countryside) and protected middle class interests. they also lost touch with the peasants. so now it was all about guerilla warfare- the new in thing. like get with the program jiang, you old fashioned fart - conventional warfares for losers. ah frichen, im bored. on to germany.

ramya
"meet ramya the amazing vent for all your varied frustrations? our first guest today will be XYZ who will take their insecurities out on us by throwing a pie in our face. then we will be heaped with verbal abuse, bitchy remarks about the way we look, and our lack of achievement in life, as clearly demonstrated by the fact that we wake up late. after the commercial break, we will finally snap and hack them all to death, then take a gun to our heads."
ramya is the most amazing person in the world because she changes everything and everyone around her for the better. shes a whirling dervish of creation and destruction, and the best thing to happen to the planet. ramya changes lives - and is incomparable to anyone simply for who she is - once in seven million, twenty two thousand and four point five lifetimes, funny, witty, special, wonderful and unique. nobody with anything derogatory to say to her can really mean it - she looks fantabulous whereever she goes, and does everything gloriously, wildly and wantonly. ramya can bring dead people back to life- her spirit is unbreakable - unmistakable for who she is. ramya is the purveyor of the ramya effect, and nobody will ever ever match up to her, especially now that shes turned 19. ramya is my best friend; and nobody will ever come close to having a sister like person like i do in her. ramya is simply put - god.
happy birthday ramya

owing to the fact that somehow, somewhere within the infinitessimal folds of time in the continuum of life, i found some spare minutes, i shall proceed at length to write stuff bearing no consequence to anything at all, whilst being relevant to everything. at an impasse? read on.
the gemini differential
is the latest mould out of the works, and it shall encompass exploration of wonderful wonderful split personality disorder.
the past few days have been so rip - and gawsh, is it just me, or are the o levels ending next week? so as shattered as my post o level plans might be, ill figure something out, like i been doing everyday of my life. nothing preplanned ever worked out for me - so lets see what happens and improvise.
improvisation; the most beautiful form, the true, unadulterated form of spirit
i cant wait for drama camp for the simple reason that itll make my drama depraved self whole again, and drama drama drama! i need drama. dramamama!
libertadore belleza!
so we had e math and a math (oh my jebus! they weren't that bad!) and we had biology which leads me on to another line on standing ovations for outstanding examiners, and the amazing powers of the aforementioned examiners in the art of totally screw-fucking-up their question on the eye. fanfuckingtastic! then there was that xylem question which i couldnt do until the last ten minutes. thank god the last three questions were what they were or id be dedd meat. or in my limited german, meaten das toten!
and so, after six years
today i woke up at seven thirty, changed out, sprouted wings and flew to the meritus mandarin hotel where i waited outside dr. sohs clinic for 15 minutes for it to open before going right in. all the nurses there are so nice. like this one who was talking to me and keeping me company for a while, until it was my turn. so i walked into the clinic, and before me were various instruments of torture, but they were also my release. release! sweet lovely release! as the instruments of the devil came off one by one from my teeth, and an hour later, my teeth felt like teeth after six long years. and then of course the feeling had to be ruined by the thought of going to RI and doing math, but i saw shumin for a while in RI haha, then had math. she navjote and zul were photocopying stuff or whatever.
is there anything left to say to you?
i dont know. i wish there was. and then, i dont.
strange.
like the lights high above your head, and you look up and you wonder, and then you shake your head, and think - its insignificant. but theyre not- theyre bigger than anything you or i will ever be.
its everything - and its nothing.
trust it all to my gemini differential.

know just to see if it would show but i'd try and do
watch you know but im better off on my own
this place is soo empty my thoughts are so
tempting i dunno how it got so bad some times
its so crazy but nothing can save me but it's the
only thing that i have if you believe its in my
soul i'd say all the words that i know just to
see if it would show but im trying to do watch
you know that im better off on my own
i try to be perfect it just wasnt worth it
nothing could ever be so wrong
it's hard to believe me
it never gets easy
i guess i knew that all along
if you believe its in my soul i'd say all the words
that i know just to see if it would show but i try
and do watch you know but

you'll never ever see into my head,
its a place you never been in,
someplace you'll never understand,
with its twists and turns and intricacies,
thoughts adrift in a sea of wonder,
like nothing you've ever seen,
but i finally get me,
something nobody else will ever do,
someone nobody else will ever be,
and i like that.
of things i mean to say,
and things i say to mean
something more than nothing to you

ramya.
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
ramya are you pro choice or pro life on the abortion issue?
neophyte. says:
of course im prochoice
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
so your for abortion?
neophyte. says:
well, im prochoice in the sense that im liberal and i dont believe the state has any fucking right to try and impose its own views on the individual on such a personal issue.
neophyte. says:
but im not for random one night stand type abortions.
neophyte. says:
my point is that the CHOICE should be availale and unchallenged by the state. nay, the state has no right to renege upon the individuals right to the CHOICE. whether the individual exercises this choice properly is another issue altogether.
neophyte. says:
to be fair, the state could compromise by introducing checks and balances to ensure that the choice is not abused like free contraceptives, education, counselling etc..
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
mmhm.
neophyte. says:
so you see, being pro choice is not the same thing as being pro abortion in a very cavalier sense.
neophyte. says:
why are you asking me this anyway, have you knocked someone up?
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
haha no
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
we still have a bet rmb? not for another year
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
shumin and i are arguing. she says abortion needs to be instituted, and i said it had to be banned.
neophyte. says:
oh, yeah. i forgot.
neophyte. says:
BANNED?? THE FUCK?
neophyte. says:
and wtf does it mean to say INSTITUTE abortion?
neophyte. says:
abortion is hardly an instituition.
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
wrong choice of word then. abortion should be legalised
neophyte. says:
i think your entire argument is missing the point.
neophyte. says:
yeah, thats more like it.
neophyte. says:
pro choice or pro life? in fact i think that phrase 'pro life' is in itself a misnomer designed to misrepresent the case for pro choice..
neophyte. says:
because pro life is NOT the opposite of pro choice.
neophyte. says:
you can be pro choice, ie to HAVE the choice and pro life, ie to exercise that choice to NOT have an abortion at the same time..
neophyte. says:
unfortunately the conservatives are a bnch of fuckwits who think they can scare the neutrals into buying the pro-life load of bull by criminalizing pro-choice.
neophyte. says:
a better way of putting it would be pro choice vs pro state sanctioned imposition on your personal life
neophyte. says:
but i think thatsa bit too long.
neophyte. says:
and biased. so.
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
hmm. dude your a fuckin genius.
neophyte. says:
have you taken to watching Just Shoot Me? its George Segal and the charactre he plays is Jack Gallo..
neophyte. says:
not Jack Segal.
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
whoops
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
yeah i been watching it the past three? or was it two years
akesh. we're all to blame - jack segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
i love the show, i cant believe it was cancelled after 7 seasons last year
neophyte. says:
what about enrico colantoni and wendie malick? theyre the FUNNIEST!
neophyte. says:
some of the earlier seasons ar enot so good.
neophyte. says:
but seasons 3-5 were pretty good.
neophyte. says:
after a while the "dennis as an evil self-serving cavalier sex machine" plot got a bit tired..
The following message could not be delivered to all recipients:
after a while the "dennis as an evil self-serving cavalier sex ...
akesh. we're all to blame - george segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
yeah they are!
akesh. we're all to blame - george segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
but finch is so damn funny
neophyte. says:
i would personally have liked to see more of Nina and Elliot.
akesh. we're all to blame - george segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
dude my msn died. couldya send me the convo we just had
neophyte. says:
finch was once very funny but then he started being less and less funny..
akesh. we're all to blame - george segal - david spade - laura san giacomo - says:
nina van horn haha......yeah towards the end blablabla and so the convo meanders on so thats it.
ramya wins the debate between shumin and i.
- 9:03 pm
my stance is that abortion should be illegal - so listen up shumin, even though this probably isnt gonna change your shumin-like mind, and your shuminny ways of thinking.
first and foremostly - might i remind us all that considering the fact that the heart of the fetus starts beating between 12 to 18 days hence classifying it as a living being. therefore, the removal of the fetus from its platform of essential lifesupport through a premeditated decision is tantamount murder. i dont believe in abortion under any circumstances.
lets set the yardstick for abortion through definition whereby an abortion is defined as the act of removing a developing unborn fetus in any stage of development after the 12th day of fertilisation, or the day the heart commences in function through a decision made in a premeditated manner to be considered as abortion. this is in essence a pro-life decision - and when counterbalanced to the pro choice party, which outweighs the other? life or choice? abortion is in fact, not a rights issue, but quickly escalating into a moral, ethical issue on the world stage.
taking into account the fact that nowadays, with the advent of technology and longer working hours (along with the fact that more men are into riding motorcycles), more parents are infertile and desperately seeking children - this disposal of a child through abortion is a terrible shame. also with the decrease in rates of teenage pregnancy over the past ten years, abortion is a choice that is being turned to less often - and its viability will soon be disproved in first world countries, now that more suitable and better developed adoption agencies are available than the numbers available previously - which explains george w bush's anti abortion policy.
"Ten to 15 years ago, said Frances Kissling, president of Catholics for a Free Choice, an abortion-rights group, adoption was generally portrayed as an effort to find parents for needy children. Now, she said, that has changed — infertile couples are desperately seeking children."
in third world countries - the greater problem is posed. with the legalisation of abortion in these countries - abortion centres are sprouting like mold on soggy bread (in humid conditions) to cater to the growing fetus industry, for use in stem cell research, or for display in your local biology labs. most of these places are sheds, or unauthorised clinics, where desperately poor children go to sell the babies in their wombs. the medical procedures involved are highly dangerous, and unhygienic, and a majority of the 'doctors' and 'nurses' involved in the procedures are untrained. the living baby in the womb of a mother is dispensed of, a life snuffed out for financial gain. and you might argue - so the government must have strict measures - but do they? and do you seriously think they ever will right now? especially in countries like india and china, where most of the officials are corrupt? with a bit of baksheesh, new laws are passed all the time.
so a mother might not have enough money to raise children - which forces me to bring up the adoption centre issue, as this measure has been very successful in allowing people, living unique individuals, with their own characters and personalities to have a shot at life, instead of just being killed through abortion, which involves the removal of the arms and legs of the fetus, and its being broken to pieces, and then being sucked out. how bloody disgusting, and sad.
so anti abortion supports child slavery when parents sell their children? fine then, lets all not have kids, so they cant be kidnapped or sold into child slavery.
please. give these kids a chance. they have the right to live too.
support the abolition of abortion
(they sound the same, its a sign!)
anyway heres a translated song. its called 'mother'.
The tears of a crowd of very old children
I string them on a white hair
I throw the wet chain into the air
and wish that I had a mother
No sun shines for me
there was no breast that cried milk
there is a tube that sticks in my throat
I have no navel on my stomach
Mother
I was not allowed to lick any nipples
and there was no fold to hide in
no one gave me a name
fathered in haste and without sperm
For the mother who never gave birth to me
I have sworn tonight
I will send her a sickness
and afterwards make her sink in the river
Mother
An eel lives in her lungs
on my forehead, a birthmark
remove it with the kiss of a knife
even if it causes me to die
Mother
An eel lives in her lungs
on my forehead, a birthmark
remove it with the kiss of a knife
even if it causes me to bleed to death
Mother
Oh give me strength

dishoom
who wants some dishoom?
today we had our english papers, and if i dont get my A1 ill have to kill myself. we had to write an affectionate letter to our uncle, and so i wrote to my dear darling uncle bitterly embroiled in elections sam. i wrote and wrote a load of nonsense about belleview (which means beautiful view i think) and our happy little examiner, sitting in his nice little cave, maybe a mug of coffee with the words 'i love urkel' on it, or maybe a sweater emblazoned with the words 'gay rights for all' sitting at his little desk with his little oil wick lamp reading my letter and lying down in a swoon. it was insane, and i ended off with 'your loving nephew' after cancelling out 'the little money grabbing punk. yoink!'
for the essay i did flight (and weises fleisch came to mind for whatever reason). the moment i saw the titles i realised they were all boring and had no idea as to what to write for flight. of course the first idea that came to me was a druggie who thought he could fly and became one with the void deck of some taaall block of flats, but eventually i wrote about a man who killed a woman, and then shot himself in the head because of the guilt. hehe i made use of the chance to use that phrase i read that very morning, being as bored as i was, 'the night i sinned against sin itself' hehe. so basically it starts off detailling the fight or flight response, and the meanders on to the story, so the man chooses flight, and escapes through death and there we go!
then we got like compre and it wasnt much of a problem though i got stuck at the word 'primitive' for question 14(2) wondering what to replace it with, and after like twenty cancellations i went and changed it to simple. hoplefully its right. finally. the most boring paper over. now for the vomit inducing ones. hurrah.
i conclude this whole thing today by saying that aparna is a dangerous bitch to be kept down at all costs. if you see her, feel free to shoot her. chances are, youll hit her fat arse.

- 6:40 pm
for all them ss people
SRI LANKA- conflict due to
-citizenship rights
-university admission
-jobs in civil service
-unfair laws and policies
-resettlement policy
-national language
ZE CONSEQUENCES.
-tamil tigers appear
(LTTE) liberation tigers of tamil eelam
-anti tamil riots
-foreign intervention
-loss of lives and employment
-tourism drops
-protests falling on deaf ears
things da tamils got goin for them-
-tamil language considered a natn lang
-ext mediators
-power sharing
-set up alt org?
IRELAND
-housing
-voting rights (no longer an issue)
-divided loyalties
-->cathies loyal to ireland, prots to england
-education system
-->largely segregated
-employment opportunities
there is a large bias towards the prots. evil prots.
so the irish went and protested against the protestants (irony, hehe), having peaceful demonstrations and such, BUT the prots were violent and stopped the demonstrations forcibly. the british army was called in to help defuse the tension, but they contributed to the problem by looting irish homes and conducting rough searches. the prots had the ulster party for them, and the cathies started the irish republican army to fight for their rights.
catholic demands for-
o equal treatment
o civil service jobs
met with violence. innocent civilians killed during bloody sunday.
another point we can use is actually the antagonistic nature of the protestants, having marches through the catholic districts to mark their victory over the catholics in a war centuries ago, as king william of orange defeated king james II at the battle of boyne.
economic development has suffered, investments dont come in so readily and tourism has fallen as a result.
how dreary. on to switzerland.
SWITZERLAND
a united country. factors leading to harmony and unity:
-compromise and accomodation
=mutual respect
=favouring minorities
=equality of treatment
-fair laws
-shared history/common identity
-direct democracy
=initiatives (100k signs)
=referendum (50k signs)
-rich culture
-external threat
=due to mixed background. provide WWII as an example.
=strong army
-power sharing
=power shared equally between all races and religions
=civil and voting rights for everyone
WHAT CAN SINGAPORE LEARN?
-national defence
-racial tolerance and respect
-matureness and responsibility in decision making
=introducing foreign talent
INTERNATIONAL CONFLICT AND COOPERATION
natural resources
water
-arab israel conflict over the river jordan
-both sides had own water programs
-national water carrier (NWC) by israelis
-led to war
fish
-iceland vs britain
-fish are icelands main source of revenue. fish stocks declining due to overfishing.
-other countries told to stop. brits dint, and confrontation between icelandic coast guard and brit navy
-differences settled, brits left after six months
ideology
-USA vs USSR (soviet power supreme!)
-the cold war, as both sides mistrusted each other
-cuban missile crisis almost led to nuclear war, and nuclear winter
territorial claims
-sino-indian conflict
-india and china both claimed aksai-chin plateau as their own, after brits left india. chinese built a road on it (BIG FREAKIN DEAL.) and india gets all upset saying that the border was clearly defined, but chinese say they never accepted the brit borders. aww. so there was a short war. then there were negotiations and that was it. they still both claim that 10 by 10 m patch of land.
DIPLOMACY
-diplomacy is the peaceful resolution of conflict
-bilateral relations are the first phase, like international one on one cooperation. like singapore and germany. them with their hot, hot beer babes, and sad singaporean men. beer makes everyone happy doesnt it? if you dont believe me, go ask your local non-religious muslim friend. chances are, he drinks like a fish.
-regional relations, like in the case of Singapore-ASEAN
-->promotes economic and cultural growth and understanding in the region
-->preventing conflict in a region
-->a platform for dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts
-->appreciation of heritage
-or like the european union
-international/multilateral relations
-the united nations
-->prevents international conflict
-->like an international govt
-->gives a voice to each member country
-->providing help to needy countries
-->a voice to each member coutry to voice grievances
-->law of the sea conference chaired by our very own prof tommy koh, increasing our prestige
-->singapore has sent troops overseas on peacekeeping missions
-joined in 1965
BUT
-they are weak american puppets
-kofi eats out of bush's hand
-america provides main funding for this otherwise underfunded organisation
-provides most of the troop support
-this incompetence is seen in the iraq war when america disregarded them and had war anyway, pretty much like that girl disregarded her parents warnings and did it with the neighbours son. now shes in trouble, just like the USA and their wonderfully purported weapons of mass destruction. now shes got stds, but americas just got saddam
-isnt kofi annan just such a delightful name?
DETERRENCE
-were a small country, so we have a two pronged approach, through:
total defence
-getting the whole population involved in defence of the nation. showin the nation our appreciation, and preparin our enemies for a ligation of their nation. haha such doctrination. so its like a citizen armed force.
military prowess
-contrary to popular belief, we have a strong, disciplined army not as chow keng as it seems.
-provided with weapons constantly upgraded by our defence industry to put us on the forefront of technological warfare. dont we rock? maybe.
-military cooperation involving cooperation between countries militarily. duh! sharing of experience. multi lateral excercises also allows us access to resources otherwise unavailable to us, like airspace in australia, and promotes good relations between countries as they learn from each other.
SINGAPORES INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT
-the need for planning was everpresent as singapore was disorganised
1960s-1970s
remember!- CLOFT and SLIPD
Capital (foreign)
foreign capital was essential to allow mnc's to set up their factories here and so provide employment. singapore was the only available option as most new developing asian countries were nationalistic and dint support them. the Economic Development Board was set up to attract this capital, and they personally sent their representative to the board offices of the MNCs. thats how serious they were dudes. some serious shit.
Locating Industries
-singapore located their industries in the appropriate places, like labour intensive factories close to housing estates and the heavy industrial factories near the sea and away from the housing estates.
Organising labour
-lower labour costs
-skilled and peaceful workforce
-no strikes due to internal arbritation courts to settle disputes
-technical education
-labour intensive industries to solve the unemployment problem
Financial services
-other countries set up banks
-MNCs attracted
Transport and Commns
-roads built
-paya lebar airport expanded
-keppel harbour upgraded
AND
Support Facilities
Location of industries
Incentives to foreign workers
Peaceful workforce
Door open to MNCs
1970s-1980s
a change from labour intensive to capital intensive.
LaRDS and INFRASTRUCTURE
now, the problem is with the many jobs and small workforce. a labour shortage, and now foreign competion is startin to piss us off, and productivity is goin down. so we have
Labour adujustments
-decreased labour costs, less leave, etc
-campaigns for increased productivity
-foreign workers
-higher wages
-education and skills training
Research&Development
-newer, better facilities
Support facilities
-support facilities
INDUSTRIAL restructurin is really impt for this bit.
expansion of airports, telecommunications, and harbours
JAPANS INDUSTRIAL GROWTH
-initiatives of jap private companies
-->investments in new technology
-->flexible nature
-->cooperation amongst companies
-->healthy rivalry
-->overseas investments
-good japanese attitude
-->hardworking, loyal and thrifty
-good labour management relations
-external reasons
-->american aid
-->korean war
-->government support
JAPANS INDUSTRIAL SLOWDOWN
-rising impt of service industry takes workforce attn away from industrial stuff
-change in work attitude, changing jobs, not as loyal, want more leave, etc
-global competition
-asian currency crises
there. study hard and good luck!
- 9:44 am
and with nothing dramatic to mark its entrance,
and nothing to show it had arrived,
it came upon us,
and to heighten the illusion,
they came together and said
so it begins.
sigh. studying ss.
